Can anyone record at 2200 Studios?

Anyone can record at 2200 Studios. We welcome both independent artists and those signed to record labels, hosting talent from around the world.
How much does it cost to record, and what is your cancellation policy?

Rates

  • Studio Room (A or B): $400 per 10-hour day. Enjoy full access to either Studio A or Studio B for a full production day.
  • Engineer: $350 per day. 2200 provides our own house engineers. Sessions with outside engineers must be coordinated with the studio in advance. Please contact us to discuss details.
  • Runner (Optional): $150 per day. Our runner can assist with errands, hospitality, and general session support.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

Deposit
A 50% deposit is required to secure your session. This deposit covers half of the total session cost, including any associated fees for engineers and/or runners. You have 48 hours after booking to cancel and receive a full refund of your deposit. Please note that no dates will be held without a deposit. Deposits are non-refundable.

Rescheduling Policy
Clients are allowed one reschedule per session. After that, the original deposit will be forfeited and a new deposit will be required to book a future date.

Cancellations
Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the session will result in the forfeiture of the deposit and any additional payments made. Rescheduling requires a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to your scheduled session. To confirm a new date, the remaining session balance must be paid in full at the time of rescheduling. This payment is non-refundable.

Can I bring my own engineer?

We regularly work with outside engineers and welcome them.
I will be playing piano, will it need to be tuned? Who’s responsible for it?

We regularly tune the pianos in both studios. However, if you have specific sound preferences, we recommend having the piano tuned before your session. The tuning fee is $250. Please contact us upon booking to schedule this service.
What to expect

2200 Studios is a world-class destination studio. When you book a session, you will be provided with an assistant engineer who is highly familiar with the space. Their role includes setup, direct session support, and breakdown.
Are there hotels nearby?

Yes! We offer an exclusive discount for clients at Hotel Acqua—let us know if you're interested.

Additionally, there are several hotels in Marin County and Airbnb options in San Rafael.

Please note: Clients are not permitted to sleep at the studio.
Do you have a kitchen?

Yes, we offer a full kitchen with a lounge, refrigerator, electric oven/range, microwave, toaster and coffee maker.

Guests

Due to the historical and sensitive
nature of our recording spaces, facility, and equipment, we enforce a strict
no-guests policy.

  • Guests are defined as anyone not directly involved in the recording process in a significant way.
  • Studio staff have the final discretion on who may enter the building.

Smoking Policy

  • Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors.
  • A cleaning fee will be charged for violations of this policy.

Damages

  • Clients assume full responsibility for any damage to studio equipment or furnishings caused by misuse or accident.

File Management & Liability

  • Clients are responsible for the storage and backup of all recorded media.
  • 2200 Studios is not liable for any theft, loss, or damage of equipment or data brought to or left on the premises.
  • Please bring your own SSD and backup to ensure data security.
